Which screen size is best for laptops

Better-quality laptop screens use IPS in-plane switching technology, which offers better viewing angles and more vibrancy than standard TN twisted nematic panels. If the manufacturer doesn't disclose that a screen is IPS, assume that it is not. While traditional screens have a backlight that illuminates all the pixels, with OLED, each pixel lights itself. That means that colors are truer and blacks are completely black. If you're buying a gaming laptop, you'll want to consider two more factors: refresh rate and response time.

Measured in hertz, the refresh rate is the number of times per second that the screen updates itself. Response time is the amount of milliseconds it takes for a pixel to change colors. A good response time for gaming is 5 ms or less.

With a low refresh rate or a high response time, your screen may not be able to keep up with fast-paced games, which means you'll see problems like ghosting and tearing. If you have a game running at 90 fps and your screen is only 60Hz, you may notice this problem. Some laptops come with Nvidia's G-Sync technology , which limits ghosting and tearing by synchronizing the panel with the video card. The screen knows that the game is running at 60 fps, for example, and adjusts accordingly.

AMD has its own synchronization technology called FreeSync. If you do nothing else, make sure you get a screen that has at least a x resolution. The brightness of most laptop screens can be adjusted within Windows. If you're using a laptop, you can adjust brightness in Power Options.

Windows includes a technology called ClearType that is turned on by default. ClearType allows your monitor to display computer fonts as clear and smooth as possible. This can help make text easier to read over long periods of time without causing eyestrain. It works especially well with LCD devices, including flat-panel displays, laptops, and smaller handheld devices. It's a good idea to make sure ClearType was not turned off for some reason, especially if the text on your monitor looks fuzzy.

You can also set up ClearType to work best with your particular monitor. Windows 7 More Need more help? Join the discussion. Was this information helpful? Yes No. Thank you! Any more feedback? Newer laptops of all sizes are beginning to offer 4K resolution but they are often much more expensive than their HD cousins. Resolution neither suffers nor is enhanced by screen size. These ultraportable, lightweight laptops are great for traveling as they are only just bigger than tablets and easily fit into regular-sized bags and backpacks. They are often very budget-friendly which makes them a great option for cash strapped students and young professionals.

Namely the processor and the hard disk. Many of these laptops struggle to top 60GB of storage although there are larger models available for a greater price. The processors are often downsized as well which can cause slightly slower speeds than you may be used to on a larger laptop. These laptops lack the performance for hardcore gaming but depending on the game and recommended specs, you may be able to pull a few low end, lightweight games on these laptops.

It all depends on what pieces of hardware you would like, what brand you choose, and what your budget is. They make great desktop replacers if your laptop tends to stay on your desk for most of the day.
